There's a phrase that crops up rather a lot in sustainability...
"What gets measured gets managed."
Over the past year we've been quietly doing something we've never done before: measuring.
Not just how much electricity or water we use, but building a complete picture of our environmental impact, from carbon and waste to energy intensity and water consumption. It hasn't always been straightforward (there have been more spreadsheets than we'd care to admit), but we've reached an important milestone.
Today we're publishing our very first Regenerative Tourism & ESG Report Card.
It's not a glossy brochure full of lofty promises. It's an honest snapshot of where we are today, what we've achieved, where we know we need to improve and how we plan to get there.
A few highlights from our first year:
???? 7.7 kg CO₂e per occupied room night – giving us a strong benchmark for future improvements.
♻️ 100% of our operational waste diverted from landfill, through recycling, anaerobic digestion and energy recovery.
????️ The completion of the first phase of our Grade II listed façade restoration, helping preserve an important part of Bloomsbury's architectural heritage for generations to come.
???? A continued reduction in single-use plastics, including large-format refillable toiletries, more sustainable guest amenities and shower caps available only on request.
???? Joining the Sunflower Hidden Disabilities programme, helping us create a more inclusive experience for guests with non-visible disabilities.
Perhaps most importantly, we've established the data and reporting that will allow us to measure meaningful progress year after year.
Looking ahead, our priorities include working towards Green Tourism accreditation, improving our recycling performance, reducing water and energy consumption, better understanding our wider carbon footprint and continuing to make sustainability something that belongs to every member of our team.
We don't expect to get everything right first time. As we've learned more, we've already refined our approach, and we expect it to keep evolving. That's exactly as it should be.
If you'd like to see how we're measuring our impact, the progress we've made and where we're heading next, we'd love you to take a look at our first Report Card.
