A Fresh Chapter for Our Georgian Townhouses

If you've walked through Mecklenburgh Square recently, you'll have noticed something rather wonderful: the scaffolding has finally gone.

Over the last few months, we've been undertaking a programme of heritage restoration to the beautiful Georgian townhouses that make up The Goodenough Hotel. Now, with the principal works complete, the transformation is there for all to see. The façades have been returned to a gorgeous cream colour, decorative mouldings have been carefully restored, architectural details are once again crisp and elegant, and the houses are looking every bit as distinguished as their nineteenth-century builders intended.

Most importantly for our guests, The Goodenough Hotel is fully open and operating as normal, with no impact on stays, services or the warm welcome awaiting visitors this summer. As custodians of these Grade II listed buildings, preserving their historic character is one of the most important responsibilities we hold, and it has been immensely rewarding to see these much-loved houses brought back to their best.

Projects like this rely on the dedication of many people. Our sincere thanks go to Robin Cripps, whose skill, craftsmanship and care have been evident throughout the restoration. We are equally grateful to our guests, neighbours, members and wider community for their patience and encouragement along the way. Finally, thank you to our hotel and College teams, who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that Goodenough hospitality continued uninterrupted throughout the project.

The houses have stood proudly on Mecklenburgh Square for more than two centuries. Today, with their restored façades gleaming in the summer sunshine, they are ready to welcome a new generation of guests, students and visitors. We think they're looking rather splendid.
