Unwrap the Magic of Christmas in Bloomsbury
London is about to put on its sparkliest outfit, and we couldn’t be more excited. If you’re joining us for Christmas, Hanukkah, New Year, or simply a cosy winter escape, consider this your insider’s guide to doing the festive season right in the capital.
✨ Getting Around: Plan Like a Londoner
A little travel gossip first… London transport likes a festive nap!
Christmas Day (25 Dec): No Tube, trains, or buses (the city practically sleighs to a stop).
Boxing Day (26 Dec): Limited services, so plan ahead.
New Year’s Eve: Late-night trains and Tubes, but they get very busy.
Top tip: pre-book your taxis or transfers, especially around Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Our reception and reservations teams are happy to work their magic and sort it all out for you.
Topper tip: If you’re heading into the West End, skip the Tube and stroll instead — the city turns into a living snow globe at this time of year, with every street sparkling brighter than the last! And don’t overlook London’s iconic red buses; they’re a brilliant (and scenic!) way to get around. Plan your routes ahead or on the fly with the Citymapper app: your festive travel bestie.
✨ Festive Feasts: Book Early, Eat Happily
Bloomsbury is bursting with brilliant dining spots, but (trust us) tables vanish faster than mince pies at a Christmas party.
Christmas Day & Boxing Day: Many restaurants close, but a few charming spots stay open with festive menus (we’ve got the inside list).
New Year’s Eve: Think rooftop dinners, champagne toasts, and late-night sparkle, but do book well in advance!
Hanukkah & Halal Dining: Whether you’re looking for kosher-style menus, halal-friendly spots, or simply fabulous food, Bloomsbury has it all.
Whatever your festive flavour - traditional roast, vegan indulgence, or something globally inspired - our team can point you in the right (and most delicious) direction.
✨ New Year’s Eve : The City That Never Stops Sparkling
London goes all out for New Year’s Eve — and we love her for it.
Thames Fireworks: The city’s most iconic countdown (but grab those tickets early!).
Rooftop Parties & Gala Dinners: Sip, sparkle, and see the skyline.
West End Shows & Live Music: The perfect warm-up before the big midnight moment.
✨ So, What’s On in London This December?
You’ll be spoilt for choice! Here are a few of our insider favourites:
Ice Skating: Somerset House, Battersea Power Station & Canary Wharf - magical under the lights.
Christmas Markets: Southbank Centre, Leicester Square & Trafalgar Square for festive browsing.
Winter Light Trails: Kew Gardens and Covent Garden are total showstoppers.
Hanukkah Events: Beautiful menorah lightings across the city… Trafalgar Square is the heart of it all.
Carols & Concerts: St Martin-in-the-Fields and St Paul’s Cathedral bring all the festive feels.
Afternoon Teas: London does a seasonal twist on this classic like nowhere else.
Hogwarts in the Snow: Step into the Harry Potter magic at the Warner Studio Tour - the Great Hall glitters with trees, feasts, and a dusting of real movie snow!
Pantomimes: ‘Oh yes they are!’ A true British tradition, and this year, Jack and the Beanstalk at the London Palladium promises laughter, glitter, and plenty of festive mischief.
