What's In A Name?

People often ask us about our name: The Goodenough. Is it a claim? A promise? Or just modesty gone too far?

The answer is all of the above, and rooted in history. The Goodenough Hotel shares its name with The Goodenough College, which has been welcoming international scholars in London for over a century. Both institutions carry a legacy of excellence, collaboration, and service values that are as relevant to guests today as they were to students then.

That legacy began with Frederick and William Goodenough, whose vision led to the founding of Goodenough College in the early 20th century. Their ambition was to create a residential community where talented postgraduate students from around the world, regardless of background or means, could live, learn, and build lasting international understanding.

As a non-profit, The Goodenough isn’t just a hotel; it’s a community. Every stay supports our educational mission, while offering first-class comfort for corporate travellers: modern meeting spaces, flexible accommodations, and a central London location designed to make work trips smooth and productive.

So, is “Goodenough” good enough? We like to think it’s more than enough: a nod to history, a home for travellers, and a touch of wit along the way.

After all, sometimes good enough is exactly what you need.
